A few more firsts...

So time is just flying by here. Today marks our 2 month date for living in Kuwait. It feels like just yesterday that we landed. Brad finally got his residency here! It is such a relief to get it. There was no problems thus far, but without a residency or civil ID there are a lot of things that we can't do, for example get a car. So finally it is here.

Well as per the title a few first... I wanted to share a few thing. The first being our first...
Hospital experience.
Most people probably wonder about the health care system... as did I. We had received our health insurance card just last week, and guess what the next day I was sick! Crappy about being sick, but perfect timing with getting my insurance. I had to take the day off work, which I hate to do, but I needed to get better. I phoned my boss to say that I wouldn't be coming in, and was told that I needed to have a dr. note. At this point the only way that we know how to see a Dr. is by going to the hospital. So we walk to one that is just down the street (I think every community has a hospital) and went to see what could be done. One on Brad's comments was "well I wouldn't say that this is a 5 star hotel... oh wait this is a hospital" we started to laugh, the hospital is amazing, to the point we were thinking it was a hotel. We asked about seeing a Dr. and they told me to go to ER. So we went to ER, they started a file for me and off I was to see the Dr. No line No wait. IT WAS AMAZING. I don't think that I have ever gone to a hospital or a Dr's office and never had a wait. I saw the Dr to which a tonne of meds were prescribed. He also tried to give me a needle to which I quickly declined (not too such what it was for). I went to the pharmacy at the hospital and walked about with all my meds for NO COST at all. THANK YOU insurance. Upon getting home and looking at the all the pills we noticed that I got, antibiotics, lozenges, cough syrup, antihistamines, Advil, etc... all for free. It was great we now have a lot of different medicine in case we need some.
Along with great fast service at the hotel eerrr hospital, we also made an appointment for Brad to get his teeth cleaned at the dentist there. It is truly a one stop shop. I'm sure we'll be back...

The next first is going to be kinda girly for any guys readying this, but it is about the "Salon"
Side note here... I don't think that Kuwaiti's know how to spell Salon because they are all say SALOON... So I now officially go to a SALOON to get my spa services done LOL.
Well the other day I broke down and finally decided to take care of my completely over grown eyebrows. I have a hard time tweezing them myself, and won't dare wax them myself. I have been very spoiled my whole life because either my sister, aunt or mom has been able to wax my eyebrows and they all do a fantastic job. I really don't trust anyone else. Anyways I took the big step and went to the local ahem Saloon. Lots of other teachers go there and have all said it was good. So i went to get a eyebrow wax, well something like that. Like most places they only do threading, which by the way I hate and always have, so I wanted waxing... I digress. I went to the salon and asked for a eye brow threading as it was my only option. I went upstairs for it, and noticed they were waxing someone else. SO i asked if they would do that instead, which the lady agreed to. She starts waxing my eyebrows, and I make SURE that she is fully aware that I like my thick, but cleaned up a bit. She does her thing, and then asks if I need anything else waxed before she is completely finished. Well I will admit that yes I have a bit of "upper lip" hair and wanted that taken care of. So she starts to wax above my lip. Then down the side of my cheeks then my side burns, suddenly she is waxing under my eyes, on my forehead, my chin, and on and on and on she goes. At this point I think that my face is on fire, and I am pretty sure I don't have a hair or peach fuzz in sight. When I finally think that she is done she pulls out the THREAD!!! Oh my now my heart is pounding hard, I HATE THREADING. So she says that she just needs to quickly finish a bit of my eyebrows. Ekk I am scared but figured there were a couple hairs that she couldn't get with the wax. Well what felt like 2 hours to finish my eyebrows was brutal. Is she finished NOPE. Guess what she starts to threat my face. YES everywhere that she waxed, she went over it with threading. Oh my the longest time of my life. By the end of it all my face is on fire, and now I have to walk out into the blazing heat. LONGEST walk home ever. I was so embarrassed walking home, as I felt swollen and RED. I just kept my head down and did the fast walk all the way home, and then sat with freezing cloths over my face. So never again will I go back there for ahem grooming. Oh just for the cherry on the top... my eyebrows are VERY THIN... NOT at all what I wanted :( sad day for me. I wish my sister was here to be my eyebrow waxer... Amber I need you....

Well that's all for this time...

Serena's Career Crash I mean... Change...

Well the title is a bit of a give away, but really I am just wanting to post a bit on how my careers has changed since coming to Kuwait.

Before myself and Brad left for Kuwait, I had (well pretty sure that I had) a job as a school counselor/ Social Worker. It was at a American school in Kuwait (not the one Brad is at). They told me that I had the job, but wanted to do all the officially hiring upon my arrival in Kuwait. I was super pumped for the opportunity to work in a school and have all the holidays LOL. So I arrive in Kuwait and promptly call the lady at the school that I am to meet. I have to go to the school the next day upon arriving in Kuwait. I show up at the school (way too early having no idea how long it would take to get there) anticipating a great interview. The lady meets me and brings me to a big office. She sits me down and gives me a contract and says sign here!!! Well this came as a bit of a shock since I have NO idea on any of the details. So I ask her a few question, to which she responds "just sign the contract and you will find out in the orientation tomorrow". Well I guess I am strange for not feeling comfortable just signing a contract with no details, so I pressed further for more answers. I continued to get the same response with a few extra bits of information. After finding out that my holidays are all different then Brad's school, I press for knowing about flexibility with time off. The lady sends me to speak with the superintendent. So off to a new office to see what can be done. I ask again all my questions and she responds also with the same way, you will find out tomorrow, just sign the contract. At this point I am feeling rather trapped, and know that this is not where I want to be working. I ask if I can go home and talk to Brad about it and think about it, but was told that I needed to sign right away. I said that I would not be doing that, so I guess I can't take the job. Well eventually they let up and I was able to think about it. Of course I left knowing that I wasn't going to take the job, despite the GOOD pay. Upon arriving back to where we live and taking to Brad, and others, it became apparent that this particular school in known as most peoples worst nightmare. They have a reputation of trapping people and withholding pay etc. Hmmm kinda glad that I turned that down... Well on to the next...

So I start looking for more jobs, but in the meantime I have decided that I am going back to University full time, and I have enrolled in 2 courses. I was just waiting for the books to arrive (in Kuwait of course) so I have a bit of a wait time. So I enjoy my free time of job hunting/ domesticating myself way to much. Of course  I also had to work on my tan which took many hours per day down at the pool LOL. Well Then I get an email for someone who works at Brad's school, for a job at the sister school... so I got offered to be a..

Kindergarten teacher!!!! hahhaahaha Yes I am also laughing at this point. I have a actual interview at the school and decide that I want to take the job. It is only 6 hours per day so I can still do my courses as well (I just might take a bit longer then planned). So far the job has been great. The kids are super cute and I am adjusting to being a umm a umm well a TEACHER!!! Anyways I will write more about this crazy experience as I adjust to it and learn more about what I am doing, and or not doing LOL...
